Vox helps
IT student to do people a favour
June 2005
A new national
website which helps people swap favours for free has
been receiving with PR support from Vox.
FavourXchange.co.uk
is a site which allows people to post messages outlining
the jobs they would like someone in their local community
to do, and offering a list of tasks they could do
in exchange.
The site is the brainchild of James Senior, a final
year computing student who believes the world wide
web could be a high-tech way of getting communities
back in the habit of doing favours for each other
for no cost.
"It's the perfect way to get that job done that you
can't or won't do yourself, or need some help with,
and it's free!" says James.
"It's a very sustainable method of getting a job done,
it should involve little travel, some favours have
green elements such as car-sharing or recycling, and
it can help strengthen neighbourhoods. I chose Vox
partly because they support sustainable working and
living, but also because they have such a strong reputation
for getting media coverage. I've been really delighted
with the amount of activity on the site as a result
of the work they've done."
