Putting the Science Museum's Large Object Collection on the map

The Challenge
The Science Museum, Wroughton, home to 18,000 large objects in The Science Museum's collection, needed to attract more visitors to demonstrate a case for funding for expansion. Vox were charged with increasing footfall and raising awareness of the site.
The Vox Solution
We designed and wrote an award-winning marketing brochure dubbed The Red Book and invited journalists to the museum for one-to-ones with curators.
We selected the four key events which were particularly photogenic or quirky and offered media interviews, preview images, background notes and FAQs for features. We also persuaded BBC weatherman Richard Angwin to broadcast the evening weather forecast from the site at the flagship Mars event.
The Results
Visitors rose from 10,187 in 2004/05 to 24,261 in 2005/06 and the Mars event was a sell-out. Opportunities to see (OTS) were 19.11 million and the advertising value equivalents (AVE) were at least £65k.
Our success was recognised by the PR industry's PRIDE awards in the Best Use of Media Relations category.
